A. Usage information
PollCat tracks usage information throughout our web site. Each time a visitor loads a PollCat web page, we collect some information to help fine tune our services. We collect the visitor's domain name (e.g. aol.com, caltech.edu, etc.), IP Number, browser type (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, etc.), operating system (e.g. Windows, Macintosh, etc.), and referral data (The address of the URL visited just prior to entering PollCat's web site.)
This information allows PollCat to know how our web site performs and how people are using our web site. Usage information is never linked to any personally identifiable information. This means that visitors will be tracked, but they will always be anonymous.
B. Cookie information
Cookies are small data files created by web sites to track the pages that a visitor views. The only personal information that can be contained in a cookie is information that the visitor supplies. Cookies cannot read data from a visitor's hard disk or read cookies from other web sites. To prevent multiple votes in our polls, PollCat uses cookies to store visitors' votes.
Any visitor may refuse cookies by configuring their browser to reject cookies. Cookies are not needed to use PollCat's web site.
C. Poll information
Responses to poll questions on the PollCat web site are stored and reported anonymously. Your responses cannot be connected to any personal information about you.
To prevent ballot box stuffing, a cookie is written to your computer when you respond to a poll. This cookie contains your poll response.
The results of polls are freely displayed on the PollCat web site after you vote.
D. Survey information
There are two kinds of surveys that are served from the PollCat web site: PollCat surveys and third party surveys.
- PollCat surveys
PollCat conducts user surveys to improve our content and services. We may from time to time share the aggregated demographic information from these surveys. We will never share or distribute any personal or identifying information supplied in a PollCat survey. If a PollCat survey asks for contact information (name, address, e-mail, etc), that information will only be used when necessary to provide service to the visitor, and will never be shared with any third party.
- Third party surveys
Third parties conduct surveys using PollCat's services. Third party surveys are not the responsibility of PollCat, and submitting information is at your own risk. Any information submitted in a third party survey is subject to the privacy policy of the entity conducting the survey and is not subject to PollCat's privacy policy. PollCat does not endorse the products and services of any third party and expressly prohibits in our terms of service agreement any fraudulent or illegal use of our services.
E. Registration Information
During registration to use PollCat's services, the visitor is required to supply their first name, their last name, and their email address. This information is necessary for PollCat to provide services.
During registration, the visitor has the option to supply the name of the company they are associated with.
This information is used to facilitate the execution of PollCat's services. Specifically, the email address is used to notify the visitor of the status of their service. Additionally, the email address is used to notify the visitor of new offerings from PollCat.
